The Macraes village is just over an hour’s drive from Dunedin and Oamaru. The historic Stanley’s Hotel is an important hub at the centre of the village, servicing both local miners from Oceana Gold, and local farming families.
Our fabulous Macraes Moonlight School caters for years 1-8 students with a current role of 20. With 2 teachers, we have a fantastic student to teacher ratio and a structured literacy programme is an important part of our teaching. We are excited to welcome a new principal starting 2023. A covered, heated pool means children swim daily throughout summer and a recently installed sports turf is adjacent to the school as well as a large sports/cricket field. Our children are lucky enough to have the opportunity provided in a rural school environment but do not miss out on extra curricular activities. Community support provides a community van which along with rostered parent help, allows our kids to participate in sports such as rugby, hockey, ice hockey, touch, mini ball, and school trips, to name a few. We have a playgroup held weekly at our local Macraes Pavilion, which provides a brilliant support network for families with young children. The East Otago High School bus transports students from the village daily.

A variety of jobs regularly come up at Oceana Gold, vacancies can be found on their current jobs page under the Macraes section.
A number of houses within the village are currently up for rent (January 2023) through Oceana Gold. Please visit their TradeMe page to view the houses available.
